Their name in lights....kind of

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, a not so small group of family, friends, and neighbors gathered at 32nd Avenue and Frances Street to rename a section of 32nd Avenue after Benny and Reba Benschoter.  "Benschoter Avenue"  consists of a section of 32nd Avenue from Martha Street to Frances Street in the beautiful and historic Hanscom Park neighborhood that the Benschoters called home for over 65 years.

The unveiling!!

Benny and Reba's children (L to R) Brooke Benschoter, Mary Miller, Brian Benschoter and Ann Rollag had the honor of unveiling the street sign.  Many people who meant so much to both Benny and Reba came to join us in celebrating and we could not be more grateful.

The organizers!!

This special honor and day was made possible by Alyssa Mehalick, Benny and Reba's eldest grandchild.  She made the application to the City of Omaha for the designation and help organize the unveiling.

Alyssa is the daughter of Brooke Benschoter (Benny and Reba eldest child).  Though now a resident of the great commonwealth of Pennsylvania, she and her husband Dr. Andrew Mehalick we able to attend this special event.

Brooke helped make the day special by handling scheduling details and all media related inquiries.

We thank them both for all time and effort spent making this very special honor a reality and in such a deeply meaningful place.

"While the name on this sign may not be widely known, their impact was certainly widely felt."
